President’s Message
Welcome to all!
The Joseph Conrad Society of America was established in 1975 to foster and promote the study of Joseph Conrad. It has long helped support a community of readers interested in the life and work of Joseph Conrad, and continues today to seek out the full diversity of critical and creative approaches to reading Conrad. We welcome everyone interested in any aspect of Conrad’s life and work -- students, readers, writers, artists, and scholars (of all creeds and none).
The Society is committed to supporting innovative, emerging scholarship in Conrad studies, as well as honoring well-established contributions to the study of Conrad’s life and work. Our modest dues support travel grants for students to attend conferences, annual awards for young scholars, and biennial awards for lifetime achievement. Periodically the Society organizes its own conferences. As an Allied Organization of the Modern Language of Association, the Society regularly organizes panels for the annual MLA convention, where it holds its business meeting and a dinner.
Since its inception, the Society has published a newsletter, Joseph Conrad Today, which is now a semi-annual publication. JCT publishes reports and abstracts of papers presented at conferences in the U.S. and abroad, copious reviews of recent books of Conrad studies, and other news of interest in the Conrad world. A subscription to JCT comes with Society membership.
I welcome your comments and suggestions concerning the society. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at yael.levin@mail.huji.ac.il
